The Hardest Thing About Being A Writer

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

I often talk about why I write and my motivation for writing. Writing not only soothes my soul, but it also helps me to relax and unclutter my brain. Every day it seems like a million thoughts, ideas or my imagination take me on a rollercoaster ride. My imagination leads me to the highest heights and can drop from hundreds of feet in the air and can take my breath away. I am not too fond of roller coasters, especially since I have gotten older. The only time I come close to riding roller coasters is when my imagination drags me on the roller coaster of writing. When the ride slows down and pulls into the last stop, I can’t wait to get off and start writing.

So here it is… organization. Yes, I said it. That’s right! The hardest thing about being a writer is organizing my thoughts after the roller coaster ride. Most people think just because you are an author, you are organized. Well, in my case, that is far from the truth.

However, once I am off the roller coaster, and open my laptop, I have a lot of ideas swirling around in my head. I have to put them in what we call the three acts. They are:

Act One - The setup

To establish the characters, the plot, setting and inciting incidents.

Act Two - Confrontation

Rising action, attempt to solve the problem.

Act Three - Resolution

The climax of the story. The confrontation is resolved.

As I craft and organize my story, it still takes time to write because the story is in the details. Creating the characters, plot, and background is just the beginning. Organizing is where the story really begins.

Now that I have gotten that part out of the way, I want to share something that is so amazing! I will release my next book on October 21, 2023. I know what you are thinking....yes I said the hardest thing about writing is organization. Well, I have been organizing my thoughts and staying focused. Please stay tuned for more information to come.
